Tales for tellers with tiny listeners
Concert:
Clap, Shout and Sing Story With Me - rounds of multicultural stories from around the world just right for families of all ages to learn to tell with each other at home again and again. Allison Cox has been sharing stories with the diverse peoples of the Puget Sound in Washington state, often working with interpreters to bring the story everyone in the neighborhood. She will delight young and old, with call and response, singing, clapping, and just old fashioned joining in of telling the tales from hearths around the world.
Workshop:
Lap Rhymes, Lullabies and Stories for Tiny Listeners: Teaching parents, teachers, caregivers and storytellers to tell stories to babies and toddlers.
Are the littlest listeners your biggest challenge? This workshop is for anyone who spends time with babies and toddlers (parents, siblings, babysitters, grandparents, preschool teachers, daycare workers, etc.). Learn simple playful ways to engage the little ones and the rest of the family through age-old lap rhymes that invite giggles, lullabies that soothe, and stories that everyone can help tell. Allison Cox has trained family support workers of Pierce County, WA. (who sponsor parent/baby/toddler groups) in this delightful model. By the end of the workshop you will have learned several rhymes, lullabies and stories to share with your shortest audiences, and know where to look to find more. You will also learn how these interactions have encouraged neighborhood support, violence prevention and positive parenting - all through the age-old activity of combining playful rhymes and songs with stories! Bring a baby sized teddy bear to play with.
