Epic Weekend of Women's Stories

Introduction

Epic Weekend was held on April 29th - May 1st at Camp Howdy in Belcarra. The YMCA Camp is on Indian Arm east of Vancouver, British Columbia. The gathering of 30+ women was organized by the Vancouver Society for Storytelling. The main co-conspirators being Anne Anderson and Nan Gregory.

This is an annual affair for the Society who usually choose an epic to work on all weekend with various stories or parts being told by the group's storytellers. This year it was open to stories about women, epic women. And it attracted epic women who knew how to tell a story. They knew how to take one to the depths of one's souls with drama, tears and laughter. It was such a memorable time for so many reasons: the company of epic women plus one or two brave men, the informal conversations around the dinner table, the images in the stories which left one exhausted from such deep resonance. And of course dancing under the moon, singing, drumming on Beltane eve, eating the "Bleep" cookies and wine, swirling around the may pole and hot tubbing or not. All this in a jewel of a rustic setting in the woods by the water and misty mountains.

The company of imaginative and thoughtful women who know how to have a good time is truly to be savored and repeated as often as possible.
